5 Days in Dubai: City, Desert and Old Town

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai is two cities: the glass one everybody photographs and the older creek-side one most visitors skip. Five days is enough for both, plus a night in the desert.

Best time to visit

November to March. Daytime highs sit in the mid-20s°C and everything outdoors is pleasant. June to September is brutally hot — indoor-only unless you are here for cheap hotels.

What it costs

Highly variable. $200–$350 per day for two covers a good four-star, metro travel, and one paid attraction daily. Desert safaris run $60–$120 per person; fine dining and beach clubs escalate quickly.

Getting around

The metro Red Line covers Downtown, Marina and the airport and is cheap. Taxis and ride-hailing fill the gaps. Abras across Dubai Creek cost about one dirham.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need in Dubai?

Four to five. That covers old Dubai, Downtown, a desert night and beach time without repeating yourself.

Is Dubai expensive?

It can be moderate. Metro travel, Deira restaurants and beach days cost little; the expense comes from beach clubs, brunches and fine dining.

What is the best time of year to visit Dubai?

November to March for outdoor comfort. Hotel prices drop sharply in July and August, but the heat limits you to indoor activities.
