Laguna's appeal is a string of small coves separated by headlands, most of them reached down a staircase you would drive past. Three days is enough to walk the whole coastline in sections and still have beach time.

September and October have the warmest water and the clearest skies, after the coastal fog of May and June burns off the early summer. Winter is quiet, cool and good for tide pools.
$300–$500 per day for two — Laguna hotels are not cheap. Parking is the other cost: budget $15–$25 per day, or stay somewhere walkable and leave the car.
Walk or use the free Laguna Beach trolley in summer. Street parking fills by 9am on weekends; the trolley park-and-ride is a much easier option.
